Digitising the Microfilm collections of the National Army Museum
In the spirit of Museums Week we shared our experience scanning a historic collection held by the prestigious National Army Museum (NAM)
TownsWeb Archiving’s film (microfilm, microfiche and aperture cards) to digital scanning service uses digitisation technicians who are experts in scanning this type of material. We use high-resolution production scanners and a range of desktop scanners depending on your requirements.
Film digitisation is a prudent step, protecting your material from loss or damage, reducing storage costs and making it quickly accessible for internal and external users. We are able to convert most items regardless of deterioration and can create output formats in TIFF, JPEG, and PDF, or any other industry-standard image format you may require. We can also create further surrogate files, such as OCRd PDFs to make the content keyword searchable.
All files are captured by our highly trained digitisation technicians using overhead daylight balanced, non-heat producing lighting, before undergoing a formal quality assurance checking procedure. The final step in the process is the delivery of your electronic files by hard drive.
